How to: User Accounts

Active News Manager comes pre-configured with the Administrative Account 'root'. After you have installed ANM, you should immediately log in with the username 'root', password 'root' and change the password.

To log into Active News Manager, open a new browser window and enter the URL : 'http://www.yoursite.com/cgi-bin/anm3.8.pl'. After you have logged in, click 'User Accounts' on the main toolbar, then click 'List User Accounts'. Now click the 'edit' button to the right of the Account 'root'.  Enter a new password in the space provided, and click 'Save Account Information'.

Next you can create a user account for each writer and editor. User Accounts can be created in three flavors, 'Writer', 'Editor', and 'Administrator'.

Writer accounts can add, edit and remove articles. Writers can also upload images.

Editors can add, edit and remove articles, plus archive and publish news. Editors will also be notified with a large yellow exclamation point to the left of each new article. The notification will disappear as soon as the article is Edited.

Administrators have full control over Active News Manager, except for control of articles. If article control is needed, an additional editor account should be created for each administrator.
