How to: Trouble Shooting

During the installation phase, you may encounter error messages. This is usually caused by a missing file, improper file permissions, or an invalid path.

Types of Errors:

Publishing Errors
File Upload and Resize Errors
General Errors

General Errors:

Problem: 'Every once in a while I am logged out of Active News Manager against my will.'
1. Cause: Active News Manager has tight security which will log your user name out after 30 minutes of inactivity.
2. Cause: You may have pressed a button on a toolbar, but before the new page loads, changed your mind and clicked on a different button.
3. Cause: Someone else is logged in with the same username and password as you.

Publishing Errors:

Problem: 'I get this error when I try to publish news.'

Software error:

Could not add news to page (page name
      here) due to No such file or directory at anm3.8data/anm3.8.r1.lib line
      478.

Cause: Active News Manager cannot find the web page (page name here). To fix this problem, log in with an administrative account, remove the page from the processing queue. ( click 'News Settings', 'Processing Queue', then locate the web page, and click the 'remove' button located to the right.)

Problem: 'I get this long error message when I try to publish news.'

Software error:

ERROR #1. Cannot open Article Page Template (
      ./../../test38/General_News/template.html ) due to No such file or
      directory Upload a Full Story Page template to the directory specified to
      continue. Imported Articles which do not have a corresponding Category may
      have caused this problem. If you only see ( template.html ) without other
      path information, you will need to edit the article (3655) or create the
      category (General_News)

1. Cause: This usually occurs when articles are imported. If they specify a category which does not exist, you will receive this message. If you look towards the end of the message, it will tell you which article is causing the problem (3655). Change the category for the mentioned article to proceed.
2. Cause: The category exists, but there is no 'template.html' file in the categories directory. Add this file, and the error will not appear the next time you try to publish news.

Problem: 'I added an insertion order to my web page, but ANM will not add news to the page'.
1. Cause: Check to see if the web page is listed in the Processing Queue, if not, add it. (click 'News Settings', 'Processing Queue', then 'List News Pages'.)
2. Cause: Check your insertion order to make sure you spelled the category name correctly. Also check to make sure that some of you articles will fit all of the insertion orders criteria.

File Upload and Resize Errors:

Problem: 'The image I uploaded is shown, but the smaller thumbnail is missing. There is also a warning about an unsupported file type, or a unexpected tag.'
Cause: Active News Manager only supports GIF's, JPEG's, and BMP's. If the file you are trying to upload is a supported file type, they you may need to reinstall Image::Magick.
