How to: Creating and Publishing News Pages For the purpose of clarity, news pages will be defined as any web page which contains an Active News Manager insertion order, and is listed in the processing queue. News Pages are a place for visitors to browse the main news headlines. If the headlines appeal to a visitor, they may click on the link to the Full Story Page, where they can read the entire article. News Pages may be any web page on your web site, with any desired extension. Publishing News Pages requires three steps.
An insertion order is a HTML comment which contains information about which articles should be published on the news page. Each news page may contain multiple insertion orders, as long as they each have a opening and closing tag, and unique numbers. Here is an example insertion order. <!--ANM-1000-"
-c='Top Stories' "--> Insertion orders must be positioned at the left most point in the HTML code. They will be ignored by WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) HTML editors, and Web browsers. They will behave as if they where simply not there, except when ANM reads the page. You can read more about insertion orders in the News Options section of this guide. Add the news page to the processing queue. Next add the web page to the processing queue. This is accomplished by clicking 'News Settings', then 'Processing Queue'. Next click 'Add a news page', and browse to the correct file on your web server. When you find the file, highlight it, and click 'choose this file'. The new news page should be listed under the processing queue toolbar. Change the news page permissions. Next change the permissions of the news page to allow ANM to publish news. The permissions should be 766, or (Owner: read, write, execute; Group: read, write; Other: read, write). Insertion Orders are covered in the 'New Options' section. |
